My name is Holly Nichole Smith and I am an English student at the University of North Georgia.
I decided to create a web page highlighting the important medicines of the Victorian era because of the fascinating discoveries that were made. The fact that important drugs such as morphine and atropine were isolated and discovered during this time helps articulate the barriers of the Victorian era. Huge medical advancements were made during this time, and not all strictly medicines. Doctors were learning more about anatomy, physiology, germs, diseases, and hygiene. Hospitals were being built and introducing new and improved techniques. People were learning about how to prevent disease with hygiene and cleanliness. The innovations at this time were a huge step in the advancement of medicine, even some of our important knowledge today comes from this era. After the end of the Victorian era, doctors and scientist were well on their way to developing the medical knowledge we have today.
